Keep working past a plan limit with extra usage
Open in AgentumPurpose
Sara's team reaches its five-hour limit in the middle of a client report. Instead of waiting for the reset or buying a bigger plan, the workspace owner turns on extra usage. From then on, work that goes past a plan limit is paid from a prepaid balance of credits, and everyone keeps working.
Before you start
Extra usage belongs to the workspace, and only the workspace owner (billing management access) can turn it on, buy credits and set caps. Members can see the balance and their own spending, and can ask the owner for credits. Your plan's own limits are always used first; credits are spent only after a plan limit is reached.
Steps
- Open Settings, then Usage. The Extra usage section shows your Balance, the date the next credits expire, whether extra usage is on, the Monthly cap, and Spent this month.
- To buy credits, select Add credits. Type any amount between the smallest and largest purchase the dialog shows (in toman in Farsi, in US dollars in English), then select Continue to checkout. While online payment is unavailable, the dialog says Online payment is not available yet. Contact us to add credits.
- Review the amount and confirm the payment. The balance updates at once and the credits appear in the History table under the section.
- Turn on the Extra usage switch. While it is off, you stop when a plan limit is reached.
- Optionally set a Monthly cap and select Save. Extra usage stops for the whole workspace once that much has been spent in a calendar month. Leave the field empty for no cap.
- In a team or organization workspace, open Settings, then Workspace administration. The Members tab has an Extra usage column with each member's spending this month. Use the pencil button to set a member's monthly cap; enter 0 to stop that member using extra usage, or select Remove cap.
- When a plan limit is reached in a chat, the message says when the limit resets and offers buttons that fit your role: Turn on extra usage, Add credits, Raise cap, Upgrade, or, for a member, Ask the owner. After you select Ask the owner, the card says Request sent. The owner sees the request at the top of the Members tab and selects Approve (optionally setting a cap for that member) or Dismiss.
- When extra usage takes over, the chat shows Plan limit reached. Continuing with extra usage. with the time the plan limit resets. Near a limit, a notice above the message box says how much of the five-hour or weekly limit you have used.
Expected result
Work continues after a plan limit without waiting for the reset. Plan usage is always spent first, and the balance goes down only for what goes past it. Each purchase, each spend and each expiry is a line in History.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The chat still stops at the limit | Extra usage may be off, the balance may be empty, or a monthly cap (the workspace's or yours) may be reached. Settings, Usage, Extra usage says which. |
| I cannot change the switch or the cap | Only the workspace owner can. Select Ask the owner in the limit message. |
| My credits disappeared | Credits expire 12 months after purchase, oldest first. The next expiry date is shown under the balance. |
| Can I get a refund for credits | No. Credits are not refundable and are never part of a subscription refund. |
| The balance is low | The section says so when it falls under a small amount. Add credits to keep working past a plan limit. |
