Let an agent delegate to other agents
Open in AgentumPurpose
One agent that does everything gets muddled. Choose other custom agents in your current workspace that this agent can hand tasks to, so a stock question goes to the inventory analyst. Each one works with its own model, instructions, tools and settings.
Before you start
You need permission to manage the parent agent, and there must be at least one other custom agent in your current workspace. Only those agents can be chosen.
Steps
- Open "Agents", find the agent under "My agents" and select it. In the window, open "Agent actions" (the three dots) and choose "Edit agent".
- Open "Sub-agents".
- Under "Agents", type in "Search your agents" to filter, then select "Add" next to each agent that should receive delegated tasks. The agent you are editing is not listed. You can choose up to 50.
- The chosen agents appear under "Selected agents". Select the trash button next to one to remove it. An entry named "Unavailable agent" means the agent is no longer available to this workspace: remove it.
- Select "Save", then test with a request the sub-agent is good at.
Expected result
The agent can delegate suitable work to the selected sub-agents. It decides for itself when to delegate, so not every request is handed off.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No agents are listed | Clear the search. You need other custom agents in this workspace. |
| "Save" is rejected | A selection that points back to the agent itself or forms a loop is refused, and so is one that includes an agent you cannot access or a very deeply nested chain of delegation. Remove inaccessible agents, break the loop or simplify the nesting, then save again. |
| "No sub-agents selected." | Nothing is selected yet. Add one from the list below. |
