Use the browser extension

Open in Agentum

Purpose

Mina is reading a long article about school lunch ideas and keeps switching tabs to ask questions about it. Chat with your default agent in a side panel next to any web page, and, only when you choose, let it read that page or click and type on it.

Before you start

Install the Agentum extension in Google Chrome 116 or newer and have an Agentum account (see Sign in and create your account). The side panel follows the language of your account. Browser tools work only in Chat mode with the default agent.

Steps

  1. Click the Agentum icon in the browser toolbar ("Open Agentum"). The side panel opens. A label at its top shows the connection: "Not connected", "Connecting…", "Connected", "Reconnecting…" or "Disconnected".
  2. If you are not signed in, the panel says "Your Agent, in your browser". Select "Sign in to Platform" to open the Agentum sign-in page in a new tab and sign in. Back in the panel, select "Connect after sign in".
  3. Once connected, the panel shows the agent's name ("Default Agent"), your name and seat, and "Sign out".
  4. The row below says "Browser access is off". Nothing on any page is visible to the agent yet. To let it see a page, open that web page, click the toolbar icon on that page, then select "Share page" in the panel. The row then says "Page shared" with the page title and address. Pages of Agentum itself and non-web pages cannot be shared.
  5. Type your request in "Ask your Agent…" and select "Send". Each message can contain up to 12,000 characters. Split longer requests into separate messages. Below the box, "Browser tools available" means a page is shared, and "Chat only" means it is not. Select "Stop" to cancel a running reply, and "New conversation" to start fresh. If the connection drops, select "Reconnect".
  6. When the agent wants to act on the page, the panel asks "Allow this browser action?" Sharing permits the agent to read the page's title, address and contents without another prompt. Clicking, typing and scrolling each require "Allow once" or "Deny". The prompt shows the action ("Click", "Type text" or "Scroll"), its target, the page title and address, and any text it wants to type. Read it, then choose. Clicks can submit forms, send messages or make purchases.
  7. To take the page back, select "Revoke" in the sharing row. Closing the shared tab also ends sharing. "Sign out" revokes browser access and signs out the shared Agentum session, including the web app in that browser.

Expected result

Only the one page you shared is available to the agent. Sharing a page lets the agent read it; clicking, typing and scrolling still need your approval each time. While the agent works, the panel shows lines such as "Agent is using a tool…", "Interacting with your browser…", "Tool finished" and "Browser action finished".

Troubleshooting

Problem What to do
"Sign in and connect first." or "You are signed out. Sign in to the Platform, then connect." Select "Sign in to Platform", then "Connect after sign in".
"Complete your account in the Platform, then reconnect." Finish "Complete your account" on the sign-in page, then reconnect.
"Open a web page and click the extension toolbar icon before sharing it." Switch to the web page you want to share, click the toolbar icon on that page, and select "Share page" again.
"The tab changed origin. Click the extension toolbar icon and share it again." The tab moved to a different site. Share it again.
"Stop the active Run before sharing another page." Select "Stop", then share the page.
"Share a tab first." or "The browser device is offline. Reconnect and share the tab again." Share the page again, after reconnecting.
"Browser access revoked or call expired." The permission ran out. Ask again and select "Allow once" sooner.
"The page or element changed, is protected, or is unsupported." The agent could not use that element. Describe another way to do it, or do that step yourself.
"Page context exceeded its limit." The page is too large. Share a smaller page.
"Browser tools work only in Chat with the default agent." Use a normal Chat with the default agent, not Work or a custom agent.
You do not recognize the target of a requested action Select "Deny".
