Schedule a task
Open in AgentumPurpose
Neda's weekly report used to eat her Saturday morning. Have the agent run a prompt once, or again and again, at a time you choose, and find the finished result waiting in a chat.
Before you start
Choose the workspace you want. A scheduled task sends its prompt to your default agent, so the agent, your plan and your usage allowance apply to every run, just like a message you type.
Steps
- Open "Scheduled" in the sidebar. The page "Scheduled tasks" lists your tasks. "Search tasks" filters them by name or prompt. Select "New".
- Type a "Name" (up to 120 characters) and the "Prompt" (up to 12,000 characters): what the agent should do each time. The blue line at the top of the form summarizes the schedule, for example "Daily 8:00 AM".
- Under "Frequency", set "Repeat". "Does not repeat" runs the task once. "Custom" lets you pick a "Frequency": "Daily", "Weekly" or "Monthly". A new task starts as daily at 8:00 AM.
- Set the "Time", and for one-time, weekly and monthly tasks the "Start date". A weekly task repeats on the weekday of its start date. A monthly task repeats on the day of its start date, and in shorter months it runs on the last day of the month.
- For a repeating task, "End repeat" is "Never" or "On date". With "On date" choose the "End date". The task still runs on that day.
- Open the line "Timezone" to see or change the time zone, which starts as the one your device uses. Type or pick a zone such as UTC or Europe/London. For a daily task, the "Start date" is inside this section too. All times follow the zone you set. When daylight saving skips an hour the run moves forward, and when it repeats an hour the task runs once.
- Select "Save". The task appears in the list with a label ("Active" or "Paused"), its prompt, how often it runs, "Next: [date and time]" (or "Last: [date and time]" when nothing more is scheduled) and its time zone. If the last run failed, the reason is shown in red.
- After the first execution creates a conversation, select the task row to read its replies. Before then, use the options button ("Options for [task name]") to edit, pause or delete it. The options button offers "Edit task", "Pause" or "Enable", and "Delete".
- To delete, select "Delete", read "Delete scheduled task?" and confirm with "Delete", or select "Cancel" to keep the task.
The form below shows the "Weekly sales summary" task being edited with "Edit task". "Save" stays unavailable until you change something.
Expected result
At each scheduled time the default agent runs the prompt and the answer appears in the task's conversation. Editing a task changes its name, prompt and schedule, not its conversation. A task that runs once shows the result of that run ("Completed" or "Failed") in place of "Active" afterwards. "Pause" stops future runs until you select "Enable". Deleting stops future runs; work already queued or running finishes, and the conversation stays in your chats.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Save" is dimmed | The name or prompt is empty, or you have not changed anything since opening it. |
| "Choose a valid date, time and time zone." | Check the date and time, and type a real time zone name, such as Asia/Dubai. |
| "This schedule has no future run. Check its start and end dates." | The start date is in the past for a one-time task, or the end date has passed. Choose later dates. |
| "The end date must be on or after the start date." | Pick an end date that is the start date or later. |
| "Only repeating tasks can have an end date." | Set "Repeat" to "Custom", or set "End repeat" to "Never". |
| "The schedule was changed at the same time. Please try again." | Reopen the task and save again. |
| The task shows a red error under it | Read the error under the task and correct its cause, such as the usage limit, or "This scheduled task needs your approval to use a plugin tool. Run it from the chat to approve." (a task cannot ask for approval, so run it from a chat, or set Settings, "Plugins", "Tool approval" to "Always allow"). A repeating task tries again only if another run is scheduled. For a one-time or ended task, choose a future schedule and enable it. |
| "No tasks found" | Clear the search box or try another word. |
| The list will not load | Select "Try again". |
