Use Data Privacy Mode
Purpose
Keep a workspace, a project or a single chat on models that run only on servers inside Iran, and have Agentum offer a private chat when a message looks sensitive.
Before you start
- Data Privacy Mode exists only in team and organization workspaces. A personal workspace does not have it.
- It needs at least one private model: a chat model whose server and hosting are inside Iran. If none is available yet, the switches are turned off and say "No model hosted in Iran is available yet." Adding your own private model is described below.
- Turning it on for a workspace needs permission to manage workspace settings, which Owners and Admins have. Turning it on for a project needs permission to manage projects. Anyone can start a private chat.
- The promise is about location only: a private chat runs on servers inside Iran and nothing is sent outside the country. Agentum does not claim that the messages are encrypted.
Steps
Turn it on for the whole workspace
- Open Settings, choose "Workspace administration" under "Workspace" and select the "Policies" tab.
- In the "Data Privacy Mode" card, select "Turn on". The dialog "Turn on Data Privacy Mode?" lists what will change: only the private models hosted in Iran can be used; web search, plugins, voice, read aloud, and Telegram and Bale bots turn off; and chats started now stay private, even if you turn this off later. Confirm it.
- The card shows "On since" the date and who turned it on. To turn it off, select "Turn off" and confirm. Chats that were started while it was on stay private.
Turn it on for one project
- Open the project, then "Project settings" (or create a new project: the "Create project" dialog has the same switch).
- Turn on the "Data Privacy Mode" switch and save. Every chat in the project is private.
- Anyone who can manage projects can turn it on. Only a workspace Owner or Admin can turn it off; for everyone else the switch is disabled with "Only workspace admins can turn this off."
Start a private chat
- In a new, empty chat, select "Private chat" in the message box (its tooltip says "Start a private chat"). The message box takes on the private look (a teal border and a shield, with the hint "Ask privately") and the model list shows private models.
- Send your message. After the first message it becomes a fixed "Private chat" label: a chat cannot be switched back.
- In a chat that is not private, choose "Start a private chat" from the chat menu to open a new private chat. The old chat is not converted, because its earlier messages were already answered by a model that may run outside Iran.
See which models you can use
- Open the model list in the message box. A shield marks every private model, in every chat.
- When privacy applies, the list says "Data Privacy Mode: only models hosted in Iran can be used". The group "Available in Data Privacy Mode" comes first. Every other model is still listed under "Not available in Data Privacy Mode", greyed out with "Not hosted in Iran". You cannot select them.
Let Agentum check your messages
In a team or organization workspace that has a private model, Agentum can look at a message before it is sent in a chat that is not private.
- Owners and Admins open Settings, "Workspace administration", the "Policies" tab, and the "Sensitivity check" card.
- Choose the "Mode": "Off" (messages are never checked), "Suggest" (the default: the sender chooses to send privately or normally) or "Enforce" (a sensitive message can only be sent privately).
- Choose the "Sensitivity": "Low", "Medium" or "High". Higher flags more messages.
- Under "What counts as sensitive", seven categories are on by default: "Personal identifiers", "Financial records", "Health information", "Legal material", "Credentials and secrets", "Confidential business information" and "Government or classified information". Switch any off, or open "Edit the question and threshold" to change its wording or confidence. Under "Your own rules" add rules in plain words with "Add rule", for example "Mentions Project Simorgh". "Reset to defaults" restores the original settings; select "Save" to keep your changes.
- When someone sends a message that looks sensitive, a dialog titled "This message looks sensitive" names the matching categories. "Send privately" opens a new private chat with the message already in it. In Suggest mode "Send normally" sends it as usual. Escape cancels and keeps what you typed.
Only text is checked: the message and the text of plain-text attachments. Other files are not inspected. The check never runs in private chats, and it does not run for Telegram or Bale. Until a model hosted in Iran is ready for this, the text of a message in a chat that is not private is sent to a service outside Iran for the check.
Add your own private model
- Open Settings, "Models", then "Add model" (see Add or edit a model).
- Under "Privacy", turn on "This model's server and hosting are inside Iran". Agentum trusts this declaration. It is available only for a model with its own base URL.
What switches off
When privacy applies, Agentum uses only private models and turns off everything else that would send your content abroad:
| Feature | In Data Privacy Mode |
|---|---|
| Models that are not private | Not available. "Auto" uses only private models. |
| Web search and web page tools | Off |
| Plugins that connect to outside services | Off. Tools that run on your own computer through the browser extension still work. |
| Live voice | Off, the button says "Not available in Data Privacy Mode" |
| Dictation, read aloud and transcription of recordings | Only with a private model for that job; otherwise off. A recording is attached without a transcript and a notice says so. |
| Image generation | Only with a private image model |
| Knowledge bases | Documents and web links are still added and searched, by keywords only. Images, recordings and scanned pages are not read, and the semantic search is off. |
| Telegram and Bale bots | They answer with a fixed message instead of running, and cannot be enabled |
Expected result
Everything in the private workspace, project or chat is answered by private models only, and a shield with the label "Private" shows where privacy applies: the sidebar, the workspace list, project rows, the chat header and list, and the message box. A private chat stays private forever, even if the workspace or project switch is turned off later. A private chat cannot be moved into a project that is not private.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| There is no Data Privacy Mode card or switch | You are in a personal workspace, or you lack permission to manage workspace settings or projects. |
| The switch is turned off and says "No model hosted in Iran is available yet." | No private chat model is available to this workspace. Add your own under "Models", or ask an Owner or Admin whether one is planned. |
| A model I want is greyed out with "Not hosted in Iran" | It runs outside Iran. Pick a model with the shield, or leave privacy off if the content is not sensitive. |
| "Only workspace admins can turn this off." | Ask an Owner or Admin to turn off the project's switch. |
| A chat will not move into a project | Private chats can only move into projects that have Data Privacy Mode on. |
| A feature is greyed out, such as voice or web search | It has no private version yet, so it is off while privacy applies. |
| "This message looks sensitive" appears again | The check found a sensitive category. Choose "Send privately", or ask an admin to change the categories or the sensitivity. |
| "The privacy check is unavailable. Try again or send privately." | In Enforce mode a message is held when the check cannot run. Try again, or send it privately. In Suggest mode the message is sent normally with a small notice. |
| The check seems to run on text I did not expect | Until a local model replaces it, the check reads the message text on a service outside Iran, only for chats that are not private. Switch the mode to "Off" if that is not acceptable. |
