Create a project
Open in AgentumPurpose
Parisa's autumn campaign has a banner, three posts and a catalog page, and the chats and files for it end up scattered. A project keeps the chats, files and instructions together, and one list lets you find and manage all your projects.
Before you start
Sign in, select the workspace that will own the project, and make sure you have permission to manage projects (creating, editing and deleting projects need it). Projects belong to a workspace and appear in its Projects list.
Steps
- Open Projects in the sidebar and select New. The Create project dialog opens.
- Type a Project name. A name is required and can have up to 120 characters. To pick an icon, select the icon at the left of the name field (Choose project icon), choose one of 27 icons and one of 8 colors, then select Done.
- Under Memory, choose Default memory (the project can use memory from chats outside it, and the other way round) or Project-only memory (the project can only use its own memory and stays isolated). In a team or organization workspace you also see Data Privacy Mode: turn it on to run every chat in the project on private models only (see Use Data Privacy Mode). Anyone who can manage projects may turn it on; only a workspace Owner or Admin may turn it off.
- Select Create project. The new project opens right away.
- To add guidance, open the project, select its name, its icon or Project options, then Project settings. Instructions (up to 12,000 characters) are saved, but currently do not affect chat replies. Include essential guidance in your message. Select Save after any change. The same dialog lets you change the name, icon and memory choice, and shows Library access as Enabled (it cannot be changed here).
- Back on the Projects list, use Search projects to find a project by name. The filters All and Archived narrow the list. Created by you does not yet filter by creator, and Shared with you always shows an empty list for now. Each row shows the project name and its last change date.
- To rename, re-style or delete a project from the list, point at its row, select its options button and choose Project settings or Delete project. Delete project asks you to confirm. The Unpin project and Share entries are shown but unavailable.
Expected result
The project appears in the Projects list of the active workspace and opens as its own page with a box for starting a chat in it and the tabs Chats, Sources, Knowledge and Usage. Chats started there can use the project's files. The Knowledge tab holds the project's own knowledge base (see "Create and manage a knowledge base").
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Create project is disabled | The project name is empty. Type a name. |
| An action is denied or a button is unavailable | You may lack permission to manage projects. Ask a workspace administrator. |
| Saving or creating fails | The dialog stays open and shows the error. Correct the name or instructions and try again. |
| Delete project in the list or in the project settings | In the list it asks you to confirm. In the project settings it deletes right away. Regular chats remain outside the deleted project. The project's own knowledge base on the Knowledge tab is deleted with it. Work conversations tied to that project can no longer run. |
| The list says No projects found. | Clear the search box and choose All. If you still see nothing, no project exists in this workspace yet. |
| I cannot share a project | Sharing is not available yet: Share and Share project are shown but turned off. |
| Data Privacy Mode is disabled | No private model is available to this workspace yet, or you cannot turn it off because only a workspace Owner or Admin can. |
